1 Scroll down for a Promotional video for the STEM event in Tasmania Australia.
Starting in primary school with billy carts through to the serious Human Powered Vehicles and Petrol/Electric assist for TAFE and University. At first disengaged youth are attracted by the physical, car shaped Racing vehicles. Over time if they want to progress to faster lighter more progressive machines TAFE or College are there to fill that space. Student retention problems evaporate. Please contact me through FB or Twitter for more information.
Tasmania is leading the way with online support for vehicle building with a Database to reduce costs to a point where the smallest school can afford to race. Race laps are allocated for school built parts so in reality a Team that comes 10th out of 20 could win on Handicap with a school built vehicle. Once made/registered School built parts remain on the Database, clocking up Laps every time that part is in a vehicle that races.
The icing on the cake is the recording of the Team member names who built/modified the part. New students seeing that their Vehicle is built on students before them. This will help empowers many of the disengaged, marginalised and isolated young people of Tasmania.
1 The online course will support Design & Technology Teachers and their students build Racing HPV's for as little as $500.
The Course in the Learning Cafe (Moodle LMS) will:
- Help give ownership through collecting student builders and their Vehicle parts in a National Database.
- As a learning exercise, sustainability should also be encouraged through extra points for recycling old bicycles.
- Plans, Video tutorials and wide ranging assessment will help students and teachers.
- Motivating students through gamification of the course will encourage and reward progressive skill development.
