It is that time of year where making decisions on Leadership have long term repercussions.

Next to the Principal and Leadership Team the HOD (Head of Department) is the most important.

In some ways because she/he relates to their staff so closely HOD has a HUGE effect on their staff.

In some of the Colleges I have worked in the HOD position is so underrated. The damage that can be done can stay with a College for decades

and for some Principles, they place it in the to hard basket to try and improve on. Principles owe it to their staff to have the BEST HOD.

Here is a collection of Hints and Tips collected from Design and Technology teachers from around the world.

I struggle to place this important link:

Nonacademic Skills Are Key To Success. But What Should We Call Them?

It is an academic article for the term LIFE SKILLS ....AMAZING THAT WE HAVE TO ASK. Schools and colleges have difficulty teaching life skills because a lot of it is about 'personal sacrifice' which schools don't do very well. When you have the time, reading the comments works it out.

Educational Leadership could learn a thing from Google. Some of us already do this in class to help keep our class work fresh but for those that don't ....we mention the word Google. Although we have been doing this for years,......Officially Invented by Google this work process is a very interesting way to create INNOVATION and creativity in education:

Here is a simple example of how you might encourage 20% Time in class work.

Also here is a TED Talk about how to INNOVATE through the allocation of 20% of time.

Innovation in schools often gets overpowered by 'systems' approach to education.

In this link there are so many magnificent one liners about creativity in schools Sir Ken Roberson has hit the nail on the head yet again.
